Water to Water Heat Pumps
This water can then be passed back into the building and through a Toyesi Water to Water heat pump. The waste Heat is then taken out of the water to return the cooler back to the cooling tower, making the cooling tower more efficient.
The waste heat after it has been removed is also at the same time increased by the heat pump for additional uses. Their uses may be for hot water or swimming pool heating.
They are very efficient as they have the same benefits as an air-sourced heat pump but allows two uses from the same heat pump system. Increased cooling tower efficiency and heater water for additional use.
Water too Water heat pumps uses less electricity than an air source heat pump, as they do not have to use a fan and fan motor, which also makes them quieter. But you do however require 2 water circulation pumps. But since the cooling tower requires one anyway this should not be seen as an unnecessary cost.
Typical water too water heat pump can cost from $10,000 to $30,000 or more depending on your application and heat load requirements.
Cooling towers come in all sorts of shapes and styles, but their main function is to cool. They reject heat to the atmosphere by cooling a body of circulating water, usually through evaporation or heat transfer from the water to cool air.
Common applications include cooling circulation water used in oil refineries, thermal power stations and HVAC systems for cooling buildings. Our main focus is in the field of HVAC systems and one of the byproducts of a cooling tower in a HVAC system is warm water usually around 34 Celsius.
Links to Heat Pump & Geothermal Solutions
As you may have read in other parts of our website, our focus here at Toyesi is an energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions via the use of a Heat Pump.
Heat pumps come in a couple of formats:
- Air source heat pump: Uses the outside air as the heat source or heat sink – essentially most reverse cycle air conditioners, hot water heaters and swimming pool heaters etc. (Link opens new page)
- Water Source Heat Pump: Uses water as the heat source or heat sink instead of air, and is more common in commercial applications. Large buildings often have large cooling towers. Often over summer cooling towers cool the building down and the excess heat is trapped in a water circuit and then piped through a heat pump and may be used to heat a pool or supply heat to a hot water system.
- Ground Source Heat Pump: Also called Geothermal Heat Pumps, use the ground as the heat source or heat sink via pipes that are placed either vertically or horizontally into the ground. These pipes are known as Geo-loops and they usually circulate water, or refrigerant around the loop. The heat pump uses this water loop to absorb or reject heat into the ground. These may be closed loops or open loops.
- Geo-Hybrid Heat Pump: – Also known as a duel system that monitors both air and water temperatures and draws or rejects energy from the best option at the time of need. So it combines the combinations above to maintain the highest available efficiency at any given time.
